Vision and Intent for Wood End Primary School Early Years Curriculum
At Wood End Primary School, our Early Years curriculum is designed to provide a nurturing and stimulating environment where every child can grow, thrive, and develop the essential skills needed to succeed both in school and in life. Our vision is to foster a love of learning, curiosity, and resilience, ensuring that each child is given the opportunities and support to reach their full potential.
Vision Statement: Our vision for the Early Years is to create a rich, inclusive, and engaging environment where children feel safe, valued, and excited about their learning. We aim to develop confident, independent learners who are eager to explore the world around them. Through a play-based, child-centered approach, we will support each child’s social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development, preparing them for a smooth transition into Key Stage 1 and beyond.
Intent Statement:
-
Holistic Development:
We believe that every child deserves a curriculum that promotes their overall well-being. Our Early Years curriculum is designed to nurture the whole child—emotionally, socially, intellectually, and physically—ensuring they develop into confident, curious, and resilient learners. -
Play-Based Learning:
Play is the foundation of our Early Years curriculum. Through purposeful play, children are provided with opportunities to explore, experiment, and solve problems in a safe and supportive environment. Play fosters creativity, collaboration, and critical thinking, which are essential skills for lifelong learning. -
Individualised Learning Journeys:
We recognise that each child is unique and develops at their own pace. Our curriculum is flexible and responsive to the needs, interests, and abilities of all children. We will work closely with families to ensure that each child’s learning journey is celebrated and supported through tailored experiences that promote progress and personal growth. -
Strong Relationships:
We believe that positive relationships are the key to successful learning. Our staff are committed to building strong, trusting relationships with the children and their families. By working in partnership with parents and carers, we ensure that children’s learning experiences are consistent and meaningful, both at school and at home. -
Development of Key Skills:
Through a carefully structured curriculum, we aim to develop key skills in the areas of communication, language, literacy, numeracy, personal, social and emotional development, and physical development. These foundational skills are essential for future success in school and beyond. -
Fostering Independence and Responsibility:
We aim to encourage children to be independent, take responsibility for their actions, and develop a strong sense of self-confidence. We provide opportunities for children to make choices, take risks in their learning, and understand the importance of resilience and perseverance. -
Preparing for the Future:
Our Early Years curriculum lays the groundwork for the next stages of learning. We will equip children with the skills, knowledge, and attitudes that will enable them to thrive academically and socially in their future education. By focusing on the development of curiosity, a love of learning, and a growth mindset, we prepare children for the challenges and opportunities ahead.
At Wood End Primary School, we are committed to providing an Early Years curriculum that is vibrant, inclusive, and reflects the diverse needs and aspirations of our children, families, and wider community. Our curriculum aims to inspire a lifelong love of learning and to provide every child with the tools they need to succeed.
